Another way to test your after restarting sendmail is to run 'sendmail -bt' from the command line. At the '>:' prompt, enter '3,1,10,4 dede@localhost.localdomain'. The set of 4 numbers are the addressing rules to apply to the following mail address. A few lines will print on the screen, but the last one should have the matching mail address from your /etc/mail/genericstable.db.

I think the blank line in the test message needs to be after the header info (Subject, in this case) and BEFORE the first line of the message. Also, descriptions of what all the configuration options actually did would have been nice instead of a "here, do this" attitude. Sure, I can the info in the O'Reilly Bat (sendmail) book, but if you're going to take the time to write an article, make it informative for the reader.

Given that you have a working connection to your ISP with sendmail and fetchmail AND a local ethernet network. What configurations to add on the mail server and on the other computers? Users can have the same usernames on different machines, e.g., Assume no NFS is used.

I am fm India....I hv a dedicated POP3 mailserver is in USA..In my office
I have Linux 6.2 installed...I have also Installed Sendmail & Fetchmail..
My Office is connected to the Internet with a dedicated line to the ISP...
All the users on the network are being configure to send mails to internet
via Linux box SMTP configured....But mails for each user is being downloaded
by directly contacting the POP3 mail server...

Now, Pls let me know how I can i configure fetchmail to download mails from
the remote mailserver for all the users on this machine, so that all users
on my network can access my linux box to download thier mails instead of
contacting the remote Mailserver...

I have not been able to exactly get the info asto how this can done on the net.

Hoping for ur early reply..

I am from india (mumbai). We have a Cable Net Connection provided by hathway. I have configured a linux box to act as a gateway and give users access to the internet via squid. I have configured both sendmail and fetchmail for sending and receiving mails. The sendmail acts as both a Internet/Intranet Mail Server. The fetchmail has been to access mails from my domain which is Now when i configure my .fetchmailrc file to accept only new mails and also leave a copy of the mails on the server, it gives me a error. Here is the configuration of the .fetchmailrc file:

proto pop3
user "test"
pass "test123"
is * smtphost myproxyserverIP

with the above configuration when I run:
fetchmail -a -F -d 300 -L /var/log/fetchmail_usr.log

I get the following error:
Both fetchall and Keep on in deamon mode is a mistake!, and fetchmail does not run. I need to keep the mails on the server. How can I go about it.
Also help in configuring the fetchmail for specific users on the windows Outlook Express will be helpful.

Thanking you,

Hi All,

I and my colleagues all use same mailbox belonged to my boss, and we have to go to his seat to send and received mail. After I talked to him about the idea from this article so that we can use the mailbox in our PC, but he want to keep a copy of the mails we've sent. Does anyone know how to config sendmail to enable the mail-duplicate function?
