rpm -q squid does not give anything on my system (non-RedHat)
For rpm-based system a more generic way might be
rpm -aq | grep -i squid

nice article.

Hi, everybody!

I have found a serious mistake in translation. In the original "top to bottom".

I really liked the article but I was wondering how you would suggest on blocking port 80 traffic. If th end user knows something about computers, which most of them do they can just remove the proxy settings in the internet options window. Any suggestoins would be very helpful.

Dear Mr.Oberoi,

A nice article indeed. To block the site there is a beautiful utility called Dansgaurdian which, i found better than an URL filtering softwares we have in the market.

Do u have any solutions on log access analysis for squid.

Thanks

From: Shihab Ahmad [ date: 2004-03-06 ]
I have just read your article and it was wonderfully easy to understand. It was so "un-linux"... i.e. I applied in minutes on our Squid server.

Thank you very much and keep it up.

Hi!
The excellent article for beginners like me, indeed!
I am on my first steps to learn and use squid.
Thanks!
The very urgent problem towards me is how to limit users of Internet only with a single site. The users work with distant learning and don't need any other sites except of,for example,
www.distant.com?
How can I implement this?
I'd be appreciate very much for help.

From: Geraldo [ date: 2006-10-06 ]
Yes, very nice article.

One addition I would suggest is a section on cache_effective_user and _group as well as the file permissions you need to set to allow the cache_effective_user to write to the cahce and the log files.

hi I having one problem Sir how can I squid configuration?
thanks guys
From: kenan duzdas <kenan.duzdas(at)team.com.tr> [ date: 2006-11-18 ]

hi mircela do you have installed proxy server? your not installed proxy server;
-You can download squid source file as a gzipped tar ball (squid-x.y-STABLE.tar.gz) available at http://www.squid-cache.org/ or from ftp://www.squid-cache.org/pub .

Next you have to extract the compressed archive file and change the working directory to squid

tar -xvzf squid-*-src.tar.gz
cd squid -*

Now enter the following commands in order to configure, compile and install squid

./configure
make
make install
