Nice article, with good explanations...
I just wanted to say that you really don't need a heavy server if you use PHP on a LAN. It just depends on the use : if only five people at a time use the PHP pages, then you will have no performance problems on a P166 with 64 MB RAM. So it just depends on how many concurrent users there are.

by the way, the translation to dutch is done now...

Why exactly do you need the --enable-rule=SHARED_CORE option?
I understaind that this makes apache a DSO on itself, so that other apps can include it? I've compiled Apache with PHP 4.3 without this option, and it seems to work too...

Last remark...

Here is a good description of Apache 2.x with PHP 4.3:

After serching a long time in the I-Net to find any tutorial like this, helping beginners to understand Unix/Linux Systems, I found this page.
After installing lots of times other stuff and beeing angry, because nothing goes write, I found this page.
Thanks to the Author Sascha Blum, this tutorial works perfect.
I have a SuSE Linux 8.0 and it works. Now I can smile.

Good work!!!

<?php
$link = mysql_pconnect ("localhost", "lorivera", "lemmcris2") {
or die ("Could not connect");
}
if (mysql_create_db ("my_db")) {
print ("Database created successfully\n");
} else {
printf ("Error creating database: %s\n", mysql_error ());
}
?>

Hey this page is great, Thank you, really.
Are you thinking about updating it on new Fedora versions (4.0) and the new versions of the PHP, MySQL, etc? It would be perfect.

It's a very good tutorial. I'm a php programmer and never found such a good tutorial regarding installation. The step by step methodolgy fascinates me.
