Xerox phaser 6250 - list of problems and solutions
The Xerox phaser 6250 is a good color printer but I had a few issues
over the years. Here the list of the major issue with the corresponding solution.
- Software patch for frequent Jam at Registration Roller (code Jam RR). Those frequent paper jams accompanied by a high pitch sound are due to a software fault resulting in a timing problem. Xerox has mistakenly removed the patch from their site (links still exist but file not found).
- NVRAM failure service code 83 after inserting a new imaging unit. This is due to a bad connection to the chip on the new imaging unit. Solution: clean the contacts with a litte paint brush.
- printer refuses to print with error: Replace transfer roller. The phaser6250 warns you normally already weeks before you should replace a part. The exception is the transfer roller. The 6250 just stops and refuses to print. This roller has a little transparent plastic container where excess toner is collected. A light beam shines through that transparent plastic and it seems the printer attempts to measure how full the container is buy measuring the amount of light. The only problem is that the excess toner can shift suddenly (probably due to vibration) and block all light at once. That's when the printer refuses to print. The fix: you can still print for a couple of days. Just take the transfer roller out and tap with you finger against that window on the back of the roller until the toner particles have shifted a bit and the window is more or less clear. Put the transfer roller carefully back into the printer and print again. You should order a new transfer roller because the the excess toner container will eventually be completely full.
